I'm Alexa Gilmour, and I'm running to represent our community as your NDP candidate. This riding holds a special place in my heart – it’s where I grew up, where my kids have gone to school, and where I’ve poured my life’s work into making our community stronger, more compassionate, and resilient.
My life is rooted in Parkdale-High Park
Growing up in a rented home on Windermere Ave, I learned the value of hard work and resilience as I watched my parents make ends meet. Now, as a mother of five, I understand more than ever the struggles families face—especially when it comes to affordable housing, accessible healthcare, and strong community support.
My husband and I built our family through adoption. We know first-hand the strain of navigating challenging systems that are slow and lack adequate resources for individuals with special needs. We've also seen the healing that comes when families can finally access the help they deserve.
The people I love are as diverse as the riding. I’m fiercely dedicated to making Parkdale-High Park a place where my racialized, queer, and neurodivergent family members feel safe, valued, and supported. I’ll fight for the rights of your loved ones, too.
We can work together to build a better community
I've spent years bringing our community together as a United Church minister, community organizer, and advocate. I founded the Stone Soup Network, There For You program, and Neighbours Helping Neighbours in the pandemic to support those most in need, right here in Parkdale-High Park. These progressive, grassroots efforts have reflected the values of compassion, resilience, and inclusivity.
Through my Contagious Hope project, I've advocated and led campaigns to increase shelter and affordable housing, protect refugees, and fight homophobia, transphobia, racism and xenophobia. Over the past year, I’ve worked with the City to bring affordable housing to neighbourhoods. I’m running because I know that change is possible. I’ve seen it.
